Sankey diagrams are worth a thousand pie charts, in my opinion. I also find they have a very interesting aesthetic and graphical quality.
These two examples are made with the plotly library and exported in html. Plotly comprises chart interactivity, which allows different focus thanks to the selection tools.
The first sankey diagram represents the actors’ respective screen times in Quentin Tarantino’s films, and the second, the screen times of characters in the Star Wars saga. In the Tarantino diagram, the colours were handpicked, and only actors that have been in two or more Tarantino films have a dedicated colour. Grey represents single-film actors. In the Star Wars sankey, the colours were distributed automatically.
